man o man.
ugh, i need a job, badly. i need a stream of cash coming in that makes me happy. at this point, the opera house isn't going to cut it, especially since i lost the DJ gig. i could really use more PA work, which i should hopefully be getting since i joined centralbookingservice.com. once that gets going, you supposedly get 4-5 jobs a month. the math:
5 jobs a month
3 days a job
$200 a day.
$3000 a month.
i can live on that, jesus i can live on that.
grand theft auto: San Andreas comes out soon. october 26th.
oh sweet jesus christ thank you.
P R I M E R
my head hurts.
check this out.
then go to aint it cool news to try to understand what the plot is about.
it was shot for $7000, which is nuts.
but if i had just been indicted on murder charges, i wouldn't be smiling.

"Last week, on the 21st night of September, defensive back Earthwind Moreland, named after the R&B group Earth, Wind and Fire, was signed to the New England Patriots' practice squad.
Which brings to mind the 1975 Earth, Wind and Fire song September, which begins:
'Do you remember
The 21st night of September?
Love was changing the minds of pretenders,
While chasing the clouds away.'" - Peter King
That's truly hilarious. Did he hold out until the 21st or something? THAT is the height of hilarity.
The new Gwen Stefani song, "What Are You Waiting For?" . Thoughts? Sounds like Madonna to me. But I really dig it. It's going to be a big song I get the feeling. It was only a matter of time before Gwen stepped out from No Doubt and made her own music, especially since the band was moving more towards dance/disco and away from ska with every single they released. This begs the question: is Gwen Stefani the biggest female singer/band frontperson since "Tragic Kingdom" came out? Obviously you don't include any of the girlpop out there because it's not worth it - it's not a band. I read somewhere that this song rips off, of all songs, "Hash Pipe" by Weezer. And when you listen to this song, think about Hash Pipe. It's.... interesting. Apparently Andre 3000 is producing some tracks on the CD, which comes out 11/29.
The new Eminem song. I don't like it very much, but that being said, it's grown on me. It is the worst single he's put out but for some reason it's still listenable. I've never been so on the fence about whether or not I like a song. It's catchy and fun, but it's just not very good. I almost feel like this is a joke by Eminem on the rest of the world.
The new Green Day song. I dig it. It's a very mature song. More than basically everything else they've done. Green Day... you've grown up so much since you sang about masturbation (I still remember the first time I heard that song in the car with my Mom and I had turn the song down at that part and pretend to make conversation.) (Most links courtesy of enthusiastic yet mediocre).
And I would like to get it on with you. I vote. So...?
movie trailers! yay!
Flight of the Phoenix: Looks good. Dennis Quaid, Tyrese, Giovanni Ribisi are all in it. A very hokey premise, but I bet I'll end up seeing it. I actually don't think I've seen this exact concept done before, so I think this will be fun to watch.
The Final Cut: Interesting. Sort of been done before, but it looks good. I always like Robin Williams when he's not playing a "fish out of water good guy" type, ie, Death to Smoochy, One Hour Photo, Insomnia. He's fun to watch be the bad guy, not this Jakob the Liar/Bicentential Man/Patch Adams bullshit he gets himself into.
White Noise: I've always had a big fear of ghosts - always been the thing that scares me the most. This trailer I almost wanted to turn off halfway. Shit, it looks fucking frightening. Its about the dead contacting the living through EVP. I will only see this if I am made to.
The Life Aquatic: Wes Anderson, etc. Funny, yes. Bill Murray, yes. Owen Wilson, yes. Going to be enjoyable, yes. It's the same formula he uses in his movies, and I'm a fan of it.
this movie is on comedy central right now. i forgot how friggin' funny it is. honest to god, it's got some of the most underrated humor i've ever seen on film. it's like a farrelly bros. movie in the way that there is about 2 jokes per minute. devon sawa, jason schwartzman are both in it.
it's fun. check it out.
since i posted, it feels like.
- downloaded the new eminem song. wow it's bad.
- downloaded the new U2 song. wow it's good.
the movie job was awesome. i'll write a full detailed report about it soon enough.
now playing: something corporate - fall
ESPN.com: Page 2 - Comfort among the confusion
Just control+f to "Paris Hilton". Fucking hilarious.
2-2 right now between moose and petey. Manny took Moose deep. Sweet.
An old Bill Simmons question: would you rather find $5 on the ground, or have your favorite WNBA team win a championship?
Right. I answered the same way.
Happy Yom Kippur.
well. after hearing so much about this movie, i decided to go see the 1145 am showing in randolph, ma.
let me say this: it sucked. a lot. i don't get why people seem to love it so much. i thought it was boring, pointless, and flat-out uninteresting. and i usually like these kinds of movies, and yeah, some of it was kind of funny but generally speaking - i thought it was stupid. i considered leaving the movie early, but stayed because I wanted to see the credits. i guess i was just expecting something a lot more funny considering how so many people i know have said that i'd love it. i didn't. not one bit. i honestly thought the funniest part was the time machine bit, but after that... i mean it just was paced so poorly.
current music: new found glory - failure's not flattering
this job really is super.
i think i've found what i want to do.
plus, when you wear that badge that says you work for the movie, the extras LOVE you. and they flirt with you.
ESPN.com: Page 2 - Roddick's lessons on life
Yes, Andy Roddick, the tennis player. He comes across as genuinely funny. Manny Ramirez is the Advice-giver this week, and it's not as good, but still funny.
Wow, Mr. Belding.
You REALLY let yourself go.
so after five days:
- 82 hours of working.
- 32 hours of sleep.
- over 900 different extras.
- jimmy fallon's birthday.
- completely fucking up my sleep schedule.
- meeting incredible people on the set. and fast becoming friends with lots of the local people (extras and crew)
- loving every fucking second of it. i know now that i want to do this stuff.
i took these with my phone. pretty snazzy, eh.
another day another dollar.
i worked 2 pm - 845 am yesterday (saturday) and 4 pm - 800 today. long-ass days. but they're fun.
i got some amazing pictures today from when i was put alone in the clam shack in fenway - thats the box below the 406 club that looks down onto the field where there are tv cameras. i'll post them later (tomorrow, which to me is monday, today is still sunday). ive got to be at work at 5pm tomorrow, so i'm going to get like, 7-8 hours of sleep, which is WONDERFUL.
the whole experience is great - and being in fenway so much is a goddamn dream.
i miss my o house peeps though, big time.
i have idea if i'm in pain though. i'm basically that numb to it all.
ahem.
long day, but the good guys won again. fuck you mariano rivera. if i was a hacker i'd write:
mARiAnO wE OwN yOU. l33t.
So tonight - the game wasn't on the park (esp. since the tvs were showing NESN, not 38.) So people were getting updates by cellphone, text message, radio, etc. When the 500 extras found out that the sox won, they went nuts and Jimmy Fallon got on the bullhorn and started a chorus of Dirty Water. It was just awesome. No jokes, awesome, just awesome.
I think this movie will do Red Sox fans proud. I have veeeeery little to base this on, but I don't think the Farrelly's would screw up something that so many people love so dearly. Fallon clearly has a soft spot for these guys. This should be fun when it comes out.
I was talking to one of the guys in charge of shooting, an AD, asking if he had ever been to a Sox/Yankees game. He hadn't - he's from LA. I described it to him as essentially the Schilling 20th win game - but about 10 times more intense. Next weekend at the Fens is going to be absolutely @#%$ nuts. I am so excited to be able to be in the ballpark for two of the games.
what a fucking day.
a recap.
400 am: roll out to the parking lot to meet the shuttle to take me downtown.
500 am: arrive at 500 comm ave. check in 500 extras.
730 am: bring 500 extras over to fenway park. starting to understand this "PA" thing.
900 am: i am now up for 5 hours. it is 9 am. i have ingested 2 cokes, a redbull, and a handful of grapes. this is what i will eat until 6 pm. shoot the same scene over and over. drew barrymore is thin. like 20 pounds less than before thin. she is very hot. she was very hot before (i fully believe this) and she is different hot now. she's also short. jimmy fallon is the coolest cat on the planet. more on him later. i am also put in charge of making sure people have walkie-talkies with full batteries, and i am now battery boy. i rock.
1100 am: shoot another scene, in the actual ballpark. very cool stuff.
300 pm: hand out 500 lunches with the other PAs.
400 pm: check out 500 extras w/ other PAs. by the way - the other PAs are very cool. i meet a lot of very cool extras and a lot of very uncool extras. like dork TO THE EXTREME (vanilla ice styles).
600 pm: i eat two hot dogs. in about 2 minutes. go ahead and make your fellatio references. i was that hungry. i finally respond to the 6 messages on my phone - i have had 0 time to answer any calls all day.
700 pm: red sox game starts. insanity for 3 hours. sox win 11-4. after game, 20k fans stay and help out in a scene. i wont reveal any secrets here, but (highlight these area to see what the spoiler is): drew runs across the field. johnny damon is in the scene, and he steals it. its an AWESOME time. i am actually on fenway park's legendary kentucky bluegrass field. i can die happy.
1030 pm: check out the rest of the extras.
1215 am: get home. drink a beer. write in blog. check e-mail.
now, jimmy fallon. yeah, he's kind of a wanker on SNL. but he was so fucking amped all day - he got the extras excited, he was walking in the concourse with security in the game and would stop to take photos with fans. he would tell security it was no big deal. he made a joke to me. he's a cool guy, and he cares a lot about his work, and so - jimmy fallon, you made my list of cool hollywood people. drew - eh, you said hi to me when walking by. but you seemed nice.
i also walked up to John Henry, owner of the red sox, and i thanked him for all he's done with the local 9. he smiled and told me to keep the faith. fucking a. that's awesome.
okay. i'm sore as fuck, and i need a shower and a vodka. peace.
so its 203. and i cant sleep.
despite the fact i took a sleeping pill at 8 pm to make SURE i would get enough sleep, it hasnt done shit for me. i slept through the last four innings of the sox game, only to wake up just as they won, and to not be able to fall back asleep.
im getting up in 1.5 hrs, and ive only had about 2.5 hrs of sleep. and i'll be going from 5 am - 10 pm tomorrow at this job. so fuck, this sucks. why do i get the feeling i'll be drinking four cans of red bull, two ice coffees, about fifteen cans of coke? i can only imagine the reaction:
"my boss: what's with this ben kid? he can't stop shaking!
me: (faint buzzing noise coming from body due to the amount of caffeine and taurine in body)
my boss: jesus, cohen, get it together!"
i just hope that on friday we dont have to be there until, say, 7. just not 5. but we'll see...
i seem to get or lose a job every day.
i got a call from a production company today wanting to talk to me about doing documentary-style stuff around Northeastern and Boston College. which could be fun.
yeeehah... i'm getting up in 8 hours to go to work!
to prepare to get up for a 445 job time tomorrow, i went to bed at 9 pm last night. and i slept until about 11 am today. so i got 14 hours of sleep, which, uh, is awesome. AND, tomorrow, i spend ALL DAY inside of enway. the game, everything. this should fucking rock.
i had a nice relaxing day at the cape with my mother, and she cooked an -awesome- meal.
you know you guys can post comments? it's a nice feature. you dont even have to register.
you have bad taste in music. Check out the Linkin Park one and the Hoobastank ones.
On another front - I got a call at 1045 this morning from a guy named Greg who offered me a PA job on the new Farrelly bros. movie that's currently shooting in Boston. Which is awesome, because that means:
A) I'll get to put this on my resume.
B) It may lead to other work on this movie.
C) I'll get paid $100-$120 a day (it's a 5-day job)
D) My name will be in the credits. This, to me, is by far the coolest thing of all. And most important. People always ride me because I always stay through the credits with the reasoning being that I would want people to see my name up there. Now, they will.
I'd rather have done better.
i picked NE, TEN, WASH, STL, SEA, NYJ, PHIL, ATL, MINN, DEN, and PITT right. my picks for week 2 are:
hou, den, gb, bal, indy, kc, no, wash, stl, dal, tb, sea, buf, ne, nyj, cincy, and phil.
thoughts?
how can any yankee fan be satisfied with their pitching? i dont get it.
the pitching staffs of the playoffs for the red sox and yankees, as
far as i can guess, each with 10 pitchers (plus 1 extra incase they go
to 11). included are second-half stats.
red sox:

brown: 7 starts, 3-3, 15 bb, 32 k, 46 ip, 3.74 era (if he returns...
if not him, then they wouldnt carry a 5th starter, as most teams dont
use it in the playoffs anyway)
rivera: 25 g, 4-1, 26 ip, 16 sv, 2 bb, 24 k, 3.08 era
gordon: 26 g, 5-1, 28 ip, 2 sv, 9 hold, 6 bb, 36 k, 3.49 era

sturtze: 10 g, 3-1, 33 ip, 12 bb, 21 k, 5.88 era
(this is what i assume. i guess bret prinz could be there... brad
halsey, or estaban loaiza, but i doubt it)
yes, the yankees have rivera. but the red sox have a shutdown
bullpen, with foulke, embree, williamson (when healthy), and mendoza.
apparently my old dj boss (ra-mu) got fired from sissy k's, so when i showed up there was no dj equipment to work with.
so i'm out of that job, at least for now. my manager there likes me and said he's going to try to get me some work either there or at the new place they're opening up, but we'll see.
it just SUCKS, because i love djing and its so hard to get work in that field.
know anyone looking for a good top40/hiphop/indierock/punk/rocknroll dj? i'm your man. :: sigh ::
map of springfield
This is so freaking cool. These guys have way too much free time, but it's so cool. They made a map of Springfield from the Simpsons... it's really intense.
quote:
fez: i just wish there was some place in the world that prejustice didn't exist.
kelso: well that's canada. yup, good old canada. they don't make generalizations about people because they're too busy playin' hockey, or gettin' drunk, or puttin' maple syrup on their ham.
oh its been a long fuckin' day.
tomorrow i work at sissy k's. come out! i'll be posting my set list tomorrow night.
to recap:
i moved my blog again. blogspot has a higher visibility, which i like a lot. also there is more control over the look and feel of the blog, so that'll be different soon. i'll get the bencohen.is.dreaming.org to look to this site soon.
i bought a bathrobe yesterday, i think i mentioned that. its so warm. its wonderful. i'm well-prepared to be an old man.
download: snow patrol - crazy in love (live cover)
download: patrick park - something pretty
download: ben kweller - my drug buddy (live lemonheads cover)
enjoy. i'm off to work. more later.
all said... its kind of a hard day, sept. 11th.
My next door neighbors were having their cable installed that day, and the cable guy showed up around 830 AM. He installed it, and as they turned on the TV to see if the cable worked, they saw what was happening. Kind of bizarre.
That day, my friend was covered in dust from Ground Zero. Before he went home, he went to his dry cleaners a block from his house, and they cleaned his suit and let him use a shower, so his wife and two very young kids wouldnt see him covered in dust. I always thought that was a great story.
I remember walking into my friends house that day after hearing about it, only because it was three blocks closer than my house and watching just as the 2nd plane hit, and not being able to control my hands from shaking, worrying about my sister and if she was okay, and my father, since he was in new york two days previous and i didnt know if he was still there. and my "family" (they're all these non-relatives that my dad knows, but they're the closest thing to family on my dad's side), all from new york, and worrying about them so much. i was fortunate to not know anyone who died that day. my uncle jack was supposed to be in one of the american embassies that was bombed a year before, and my cousin's husband was supposed to be on pan am flight 111 (but he missed his flight) that exploded over lockerby scotland in the 1980s, so i feel very fortunate.
One year after, I went to my prof before a class and I told him I was American and I couldnt be in class that day and he said it was cool (keep in mind: i was in canada for five years). I just laid out near the water of lake ontario and just listened to music on my old nomad jukebox. it was really a wonderful way to spend the day. i remember listening to music that made me feel safe and reminded me of home. it was nice. i really have no memory of last year's sept. 11th, which makes me kind of sad. if someone could remind me of what i was doing that day, it would be great. i think i probably went to alfie's before it got all sucky. but i dont remember what i did that day... help, anyone?
all kind of surreal.
i just hope it never happens again.
if it does, i hope its not used as a precedent to go to war with iraq.
slow writing news for me, because i was at work all day today (sept 11th) and all day tomorrow... hopefully i'll get some writing done soon.
songs to check out that i've been keen on recently:
destiny's child - lose my breath: okay. it's their first single in three years. and, frankly, it's very catchy. it's gonna be a club anthem soon enough. the only problem is that the only versions on the internet right now have an annoying "part of aol first listen" soundbyte over it at certain points. that being said: it's gonna be big. after that, beyonce will officially quit destiny's child forever.
jimmy eat world - pain: wow. this is awesome. it's definetly got a jimmy sound to it, and i'm into it. it's an awesome track.
interpol - slow hands: radio 4's beats + interpol's sound = the new interpol track. it's almost got a dance beat to it. i can see this being popular in indie bars to dance to, like the franz ferdinand/modest mouse stuff that came out this summer. this could be really big.
yeah, the sox lost.
on the other hand - a 27-24 win over the colts is nice.
16 straight wins, 2 behind the record and we play arizona and buffalo the next two games. so... i think we're set.
brady is a STUD.
look at him:
ladies, you want him, gents, you want to be him.
tom brady = joe montana? not yet. but soon.
(oh and this song is the height of hilarity. its a rap song sampling the archies "sugar sugar" beat.)
it's time to evolve this blog of mine and make it more than just a music sounding post. that being said i'm making the point to update this muth every day. EVERY DAY. doesn't matter - i'm going to type 500 words a day. that's my goal. we'll see if i can do it. i doubt it, but i'm going to try.
so in the immortal (and immoral) words of mike skinner: lets push things forward.
now, to give you a deeper understanding of my private hell, i'm going to actually fill out one of those obnoxious question-survey things.
1) What color are your bedroom walls?
White. Off-white. Also, I have MASSIVE cracks in them. I know this sounds bad, but it isnt. I'm only sort of worried about this.
2) What book are you reading right now?
Uhm, I guess I'm reading Life of Pi. For the fourth time. Let me explain. I was suggested this book back in 2003, when I went on reading week with some crazy old Clark kids (Cole, Nicole, Kris, VdW, Jessie, and LeSauvage), and Nicole was reading Life of Pi. And Kristina I think had also read it. Now. After hearing this, I was interested in the book. Flash to July 2003, and actually being at home at one point and seeing it in my father's office, I borrowed it. And I read the first fifty pages, but when I got back to Kingston, I realized I had left the copy in Boston, so I bought it. And I tried to read more. I tried real hard, and it was a little after I had left in Boston, and I started over. (To count: 2 copies, reading the first fifty pages twice so far.) I left that book at Lesley's a lot, and I tried to read it when I was there, but to no avail. (About four times reading the first fifty pages now). When I moved from Kingston, I think I left my copy at her house, and I didn't really want it back, because, well, I thought I wouldn't need it. Now, flash to July 2004. I am going to the outer beach for ten hours with Kyle and John. I decide to buy a book for the beach. What do I buy? You guessed it, Life of Pi. Okay, so at the beach I read... the first fifty pages. Again.
Now, you COULD call me an idiot for reading the same fifty pages five times -- but I really didn't remember how it went, so I had to re-read it. Everyone told me this book is supposed to "change your view on God, make you believe again", etc. I can't get into the book. It's just NOT fucking interesting to me. I'm sorry - I've decided that I'm just wired differently that everyone else.
Fuck that all - I'm reading Vinyl Junkies, a collection of true stories about vinyl record collectors. And it's much better than Life of Pi.
3) What's on your mouse pad?
I have an optical mouse. So I guess you could say I go 'au natural'.
4) Favorite board game?
Risk.
5) Favorite magazine?
Blender. It's like Rolling Stone, but, you know, without the sucking.
6) Favorite smell?
That's a little personal, don't you think?
7) Favorite color?
Green.
8) Least favorite color?
Orange. I have one shirt with that color in it, and its a complimentary color to the other three colors in the shirt.
9) How many rings before your answering machine picks up?
4?
10) Most important material thing in your life?
Ugh. I don't fucking know, probbably my health.
11) Favorite flavor of ice cream?
Mint Chocolate Chip.
12) Do you break the speed limit daily?
Yes. It's mostly because I live in Boston. And, so, I have to.
13) Do you have a stuffed animal in your room somewhere?
Yes. This is him.
14) Storms -- cool or scary?
Cool. Unless they ARE scary. Like when you're driving at you can't see.
15) Favorite drink?
Beer. And lime juice. Seperately.
16) When is your birthday?
October.
17) Favorite vegetable?
Basil. I like pesto.
18) If you could have any job, what would it be?
Baseball GM.
19) If you could have any color hair, what would it be?
My current color.
20) Have you ever been in love?
Yes, I like women.
21) Top three favorite movies in order?
Ughhhhhh.... High Fidelity, Super Troopers, and Le Bonheur.
22) Do you type with your fingers on the right keys?
Yes I do.
23) What's under your bed?
For the first time in a really long time, nothing.
24) What is your favorite number?
20.
25) Favorite sport to watch on TV and in person?
Baseball. And baseball.
26) What is your single biggest fear?
Death.
27) Favorite CD of all time and right now?
All time? Uh... Weezer's Blue. Right now I'm really digging the As Tall As Lions disc. Plus, they have a guy in the band who looks like Prince. And they've stayed in my living room twice. And they've been on Warped Tour.
28) Favorite TV show of all time and right now?
All time, Saved By the Bell. Right now, it's probably Entourage.
29) Hamburgers or hot dogs?
Hangaburgers.
30) The coolest place you've ever been?
San Diego. I loved it there.
31) What wallpaper and/or screen saver is on your computer right now?

32) Does McDonald's skimp on your fries and do you care?
I don't really care. But they do.
33) Favorite chain restaurant?
Wendy's.
34) If you have a boy what would you name him?
I have no idea.
35) If you could learn to play one instrument overnight, what would it be?
Guitar. Chicks dig guitarists.
36) Where did you get this from?
The internet.
Whew. That was long
