darius rucker isn't just doing burger king ads (or was it mcdicks?) - he's putting out albums.
hootie and the blowfish have a new album coming out called 'looking for lucky' - let's be honest here - 'cracked rear view' was a seminal album of that time period. they had it all - dan patrick in their videos, a multi-multi million selling album, hookers, blow, and pretty much the ear of america. a black guy playing bluegrass-country-rock was selling more records than anyone else. i mean, for christ's sake, we all might not admit to liking them, but someone bought 16 MILLION COPIES of that album. it has outsold 'born in the usa', 'appetite for destruction', and other countless important works. yet, these soft-rockin adult-rock dudes somehow sold 16,000,000 copies of their first album. their new album's first track, called 'state your peace', is remarkably good. it's got a 'take it easy' by the eagles sound to it. but man alive, it's honestly catchy. i have to assume it's the first single (and by my research it will be) and while it won't be huge on mtv, i have to guess it's going to be getting at least some airplay on a lot of stations.
i can't believe i just wrote that much about hootie and the fucking blowfish, but whatever.
meanwhile, modern hardcore rockers atreyu, covered 'you give love a bad name' by jon bongiovi on the mr and mrs. smith soundtrack featuring bradgelina. i really don't know what to say. i CANNOT understand where this would fit into the movie (having not seen it yet), but it's so hard to listen to that it must scare off so many viewers of the film. i imagine a lot of moms buying the soundtrack for the CAPTAIN AND TENILLE song that follows it on the tracklisting. or maybe the air supply song that's before it - i mean has there ever been a more out of place cover on any soundtrack in the history of time? even the voodoo glow skulls cover of GnR's 'i used to love her' isn't THAT out of place on this album, but atreyu? jesus fuckin' christ.
also, the transplants have a new single, 'gangsters and thugs'. it's okay. it's nothing like their other album, but i guess these guys have to keep busy. the albums got more of a latin feel to it.
