edan - rap beautician: another boston mc. really tight rhymes, really interesting beats.
more later, i'm exhausted.
fall out boy's sampler featuring 7 songs off their new album was leaked - included was this song, which I think was the strongest, called 'dance, dance'. it's got a different sort of sound than most of their stuff - its darker. i definetly dig it, and i think you will as well.
a cover - off the music of the oc mix 4 - matt pond pa's cover of 'champagne supernova', which is decent. its really not that different than the original, but its still mildly entertaining.

crazy beats + crazy noises + crazy woman = m.i.a. i've tried explaining her as a female dizzee rascal, but less about grime and more about world. i'll write more when its not 2 am and i have to be up at 9 am.
okay.
so for real, this time, the new kanye west single, thanks to derek burpee.
diamonds are forever.
it isn't great, but it's still very good. its a link you have to get from "rapidshare" but, i'll re-up it when i have to. i'm a little worried about bandwidth on my server, so i'll host it on rapidshare for now...
so.... yeah.
i won't post the entire thing in fear of being hunted down like the dog i am, but i'll post what i think is the best track.
weezer - this is such a pity
beverly hills is a really bad representative of how good the album is, fortunately.

finally, boston has some hip hop to not only be proud of, but to challenge the atlanta/new york/west coast dominated scene. the perceptionists (made up of akrobatik, mr. lif, and dj fakts one) have each released their own work seperately and appeared on each others tracks, but haven't come together like this before. a true hip-hop ALBUM, not just a collection of singles, it shows off the different styles of ak and lif with the tight djing of fakts. tracks like "party hard" (as featured on adamriff) and the opener "let's move" blow out your speakers and should be clubbangers if they can catch a break and get on mtv or hot 97. they rap about partying a lot, but also SLAM the republican party. besides, any rapper who has a madden 2005 league where you can actively play against him is pretty cool in my book.

pilote - can you keep a secret?
pilote - class
enjoy. i bought this thinking it was actually pilate, the canadian coldplayesque band, but found that i actually liked this MORE. go figure. very much lo-fi electronica, perfect for ending a night to.

i love when beck decided not to make folk music and instead to make party music again. not that the folk music wasnt good (sea change is beautiful), but because i love odelay with a passion that will last throughout the ages.
i just think its great that beck's doing what he does best now - fun poppy rock music that has both commerical and aesthetic value.
so i'm running the top 9 albums so far of 2005 for the next 10 days - a little look into my mind. keep in mind, these are US release dates (and yes, i know that the bright eyes album came out in 2004, but it came out, what, december 24th, 2004? fuck it.)
9. bright eyes - i'm wide awake, it's morning
conor oberst's honest and heartbreaking lyrics grab you and make you listen to him tell his story. you don't change tracks. you just sit and hear of his heartarche and triumph. you listen to him tell his story and you empathize with him. there are parts of the album ("first day of my life", for example) where he's just channelling nick drake. the album feels like it could have fallen right out of 1965 at other points. it's americana at its finest. it's the best singer-songwriter piece of work since ryan adams' "heartbreaker". you half-expect him to just break out in tears at certain points. i've said before that on songs like "land locked blues" that i can't help but feel emotional. he's just got this somewhat-whiny somewhat-crazy somewhat-sad somewhat-honest voice that can't make you not think of your past. he tells stories of new york city, love lost, love gained, and of the things we all think about.
mp3s are down for a little. the server's down, so... yeah.
sorry.
so today i check my mail, and i've got a package from my buddy, who's a sales rep over at EMI music. a few weeks ago he emailed me about the red sox and music, and we got to chatting - and then on my steps today I have a package.
with NINE cds, a lot of new/unreleased stuff. this is why mp3 blogs ARE helpful. record companies check them out, they see what people like, and most of all - it's not full-crazy filesharing. its helpful.
after listening to a bunch of the cds, i'm definetly in agreement with him - the shout out louds are fantastic. they've got this modest mouse-meets-elvis costello-meets-ryan adams sort of feel to them. it's very honest music, which i think is fantastic. i'm definetly excited to listen to this band a whole bunch in the future. they're from sweden, and they've had a handful of releases over there, but their full-length american debut, a reissue of "howl howl gaff gaff" is going to be big. the song i'll post from the album is "shut your eyes", their first single off of it in sweden, so i'd assume it will be the same here.
i'll have a song or two from a few of the albums i got later on tonight, probably close to midnight.
jadakiss dissed 50.
today is 4-20.
morelater, i have to be at work in 50 minutes.
i updated this week's four on the dancefloor.
it includes alkaline trio's radio, one of the best breakup songs ever, and probably got me through a breakup at one point. it also includes k-os' b-boy stance. i'm seeing k-os tomorrow (i guess now, tonight) with handsome boy modeling school at the paradise in boston.
a track for today though - a toronto band that i've teched a few times, called 'the july 26th movement'. they're pretty good, and really decent fellas too. anyhow, this song is called "not for long", and its pretty. very pretty. enjoy.
a long day at work, so i present to you...
saul williams - penny for a thought
bto - takin care of business
lenlow - j-lo vs k-co vs. s-wo (jenny from the block vs. heart-shaped box vs. rape me vs. man who sold the world vs. superstition)
tonight i put together a set list that i'd really proud of. i was told by my manager that i didnt actually have to play all top 40 just because the owner said so. so i didnt. if a song has a highlight on it, it's available for download. chad's a guy i work with at the tavern - he gave me his demo tonight.
holy shit, he's good.
here's links to all his songs, off his website.
WARNING: if you don't like jack johnson, you won't likely like chad's music. that said, he's a great guy and makes a caramel latte martini that'll knock your socks off.

3. ode to boston
4. water to whiskey
5. took 21
6. walk me home

Tito, Foulke, Schilling, and Varitek greeting Bobby Orr, Bill Russell, Richard Seymour, and Tedy Bruschi.
i can't sleep. in 7 hours i'm getting up so i can put on clothes i haven't worn since october 27th, 2004. i'm wearing my fever pitch crew hat, my radical dudez shirt, a navy blue long-sleeve shirt, a green and blue puma hoodie, a specific set of boxers, a specific pair of jeans, and a specific pair of sneakers. i'm only changing one thing - i am wearing a red mark bellhorn t-shirt. last time i wore these clothes, i was wearing a blue johnny damon t-shirt. why does this matter? these were the clothes i wore from october 17th to october 27th, every day (outside of off-days) that the red sox played in the playoffs. i wore them in my mom's house on cape cod to watch game 4, to fenway to watch game 5. i wore them to owen's house to watch game 6 of the alcs, and to the baseball tavern on landsdowne to watch game 7. i wore them through new york state, for once unafraid of wearing my red sox clothes in rest stops. they were stained with beer, and i still took them to kingston on homecoming to wear them proudly as i watched game 1 of the world series with a group of boston fans on aberdeen. i wore them home on homecoming weekend sunday in the car, hungover, as i listened to the first two innings on the radio and the last seven in my father's living room. i wore them for game 3, which i watched in my living room as well, confident in pedro's fastball for the last time. and finally, i wore them to the pour house on boylston ave in boston for the last time in months, to watch them win game 4. tomorrow marks the 9th time i wear these clothes.
i am attending opening day at fenway park, where my red sox will recieve their 2004 world series championship rings, and they will raise the first championship banner at fenway park in 86 years. i could sell my tickets for ridiculous amounts of money. but then i'd miss something that i know my grandfather wishes he could have seen in person.
i'm wearing my mark bellhorn t-shirt because it has a "2004 world series champions" patch on it. i'm attending the game with jay (my boss from the opera house), jeremy redburn (who i met and sat with for game 5 of the alcs) and his girlfriend - jeremy set me up with these tickets, god bless him. i can't believe today is here. i can't sleep. this is like christmas morning, but times fifty - i could EVEN sleep better during the playoffs, maybe only because i was drinking so much to deal with the anxiousness. but i'm dead sober tonight (probably not so much tomorrow), and i can't wait for 2:05, when the red sox get their rings.
by god, i can't wait. pictures to come.
spring is here.
modest mouse - the world at large: very much a spring song, right before "float on" on the album. well worth your time.
rhett miller - our love: from scrubs. poppy lovey rock, but it's nice for springtime.
the beach boys - good vibrations: i still love the part in vanilla sky where this song is playing. probably the only part that's good.
... yeah, those kanye tracks aren't 'new'. i found out about a week ago, and i didn't think that some blogger would dig that up.
anyhow, APPARENTLY, they're from various mixtapes. but don't blame me - blame the stupid internet for misleading me.
sorry if i mislead you guys. when i do get new kanye, though, you'll all get it. i promise.
there's a new "four on the dancefloor". enjoy.
three songs to play at full volume at 7 am when you wake up and its a beautiful spring morning. all three of these are on high rotation for me this time of year.
the velvet teen - radiapathy: probably my favorite song to wake up to. yours too when you hear it.
the offspring - nitro: c'mon, let's party like its 1994! or at least, drink peppermint schnapps from a flask you stole from your older brother.
ryan adams - 1974: off the rocknroll album. as i've said before, i'm one of those ryan adams fans that will listen no matter what crazy things he does in the press, or to them.
back from canada - i realized that if i dont end up going to grad school in toronto (where i've been accepted) i have no idea of when i'm actually going back to canada. meaning, i might have just seen some friends for the last time in years.
thats kind of crazy. i've had 9 toes in boston, 1 toe in kingston for the last 11 months, and now i've got that last toe out. and it feels really great.
powderfinger - my happiness: austrailian band, i believe. never really hit it in the US, but were popular in canada.
the arcade fire - rebellion (lies) (live at the bbc): wonderful song. truly wonderful. and live..... yes.
thanks to thinking ahead, i can still post when im on the road.
m.i.a. - zombie: and the hype machine rolls on. she's good... not great, but good.
the gorillaz - feel good: i've grown to like this more in the last few days.
so im going to the great white north to dj a party on tuesday night at ALFIES PUB in kingston ontario. also to see a ton of people, including the very last khaki snack show ever.
so i wont be back until wednesday. if you wanna go to this party for some reason, if you're in kingston for some godawful reason unless you HAVE to be there, drop me an email. i'll git back to ya.
khaki snack - barnone: old, but still funny as all hell. if you never got the chance to see them live, you missed out. not many bands play 30 song sets in 80 minutes and still keep the audience entertained. not many use a gong, a ukuleke, two guitars, a provan,
audioslave - be yourself: the new audioslave. i'm not a big audioslave fan (i frankly just think they sound like a band that is advertised at record town....'ON SALE NOW... AUDIOSLAVE, ONLY $9.99!'), but i like this song.
zebrahead - hello tomorrow: rory from adamriff told me to get this track. it's pretty sweet.
gorillaz - dirty harry: first of their two singles. the other comes tomorrow.
two songs for you.
dave grohl - stairway to heaven (live on craig kilborn): it's fun. it's funny. it's grohl. he's the best. it's fun to listen to him forget the lyrics, but its even more fun to hear him eventually get really into it.
deltron 3030 - madness: if certain songs are made to smoke a joint to, this is one of them. hell, the whole deltron 3030 album is in there. but this one... tight. it's a great track to end a night to.
tomorrow, i'll put the new gorillaz track up.
i'm not going to spoil anything, that's not my style.
but sin city is one fucking hell of a movie.
if that doesn't win for cinematography, then the world is fucking retarded. and i say that with love.
